What an indictment of the last Labour Government, who turned John Major’s “Golden Inheritance” into a country riven with strife. Gordon Brown first broke our pensions, taking us from where we had the best pension provision in Europe to where many of us can nonlonger afford to retire. And from a low-tax system, that encouraged savings and kept down public expenditure, to where ALL taxpayers now subsidise the high-life enjoyed by modern political classes, as exemplified by Lords Mandelson and Prescott.
