If that’s really the case, why isn’t the working class attacking the state, rather than the community. This isn’t the working class at all. From my perch in Brixton, on Mayall Road where real riots took place in the 1980s, there’s been very little support from the community at all. In fact, if anything, the community has banded together in opposition to the looters – and I’m not talking about boho yuppies either, I’m talking about people who have lived in the area since the 1970s. Seriously, I used to follow W.A.G when it had something interesting to say, but I don’t know why I keep this blog on my RSS feed.

“why isnt the working class attacking the state, rather than the community”

It is attacking both. This is problematic. But when rage has been so long repressed, it comes out in fucked up and misdirected ways. We dont believe there is any way forward for as long as we fight each other. But the social and economic basis of this disorder cannot be written off simply because it doesn’t fit neatly into our idea of a perfect insurrection.

“This isnt the working class at all”

What you mean is, you are refusing to see that these people are working class, and this is and expression of class anger, because it isnt neatly packaged in your idealised view of the masses. The cheerfully exploited prole. The ‘honest, decent’ working class. However, this flat out refusal to recognise these people’s existance as working class people, and instead seeing them rather fascistically as the ‘sub-class’, is where the anti-social nature of these riots stems from. Class solidarity comes from inclusion and united class interests. People have been ignoring, dismissing and distancing themselves from this “sub-class” for too long. This is their scream to be heard.

“If anything, the community has banded together in opposition to the looters”

If people want to band together in support of the local petit-bourgeoise then thats fine, I certainly dont think it tactically wise to loot and destroy your own community. However, lets not valourise the local petit-bourgeoise as “the real working class”.

“I used to follow W.A.G when it had something interesting to say”

I think Tower Hamlets ALARM! has had alot of interetsing things to say so far and has many more in the pipeline.

I think you’re reading a bit too much into this, and the fact that you’ve suggested that I have fascist views is bizarre to say the least (ahem, the perenial problem of paranoia in the left). I was reacting to the line in the post where it said “the working class speaks”. Whoever was writing it, is trying to claim to speak for ‘the working class’. I don’t give a fuck who the ‘real working class’ is – for all I know, I could be the real working class. I’m from South Africa, so I guess maybe my notions of class are different, but the fact that this whole thing fizzled out so quickly suggests a lack of true grassroots support. Indeed, whatever was being ‘spoken’ wasn’t being articulated very well at all.

I hate you anarchist fuckers and all who sail in you. What do you care about the working class? You don’t work and you’ve got fuck all to offer anybody. I hate you cunts every bit as much as I hate the fucking EDL and those Islamist fucks who also plague our society.

The UK isn’t perfect, but by fuck I’d rather spend the rest of my days living and wallowing in shit in the sewers of London than overground in a UK society where you fuckers or any of the others I’ve mentioned above held any sway whatsoever.

Why are you collecting the dole, you feckless, workshy bastard? Dependent on the state you hate so much to sustain you, eh? Why don’t you all be good little anarchists and stop sponging off the rest of us. Hopefully then you and all your stupid fellow travellers would please do the rest of us a huge favour and kindly starve to fucking death. Now THAT would be something decent you could offer, and your miserable fucking lives would not have been in vain after all. Just fuck off, will you?

Oh wow, you picked up a typo. Great high-brow critique from the EDL.

In all fairness the original piece was hardly high-brow though was it?
